Altrusa Style Show
Thursday, September 27, 2001
The Altrusa Style Show at the Horizon Convention Center was a fashion show and dinner held by the women of Altrusa, a group of businesswomen supporting education and the advancement of women. Members of Alpha Lambda Delta were volunteer hostesses for the show. There were two shows that day, for the lunch show Stefanie Gray and Karen Laker were the volunteers and for the dinner show Katie Pfledderer, Tara Smith, Sarah Pearson, Stefanie Gray, and Taryn Lilley were the volunteers. Mrs. Barbara Quilling, who was in charge of the event and also a past advisor of Alpha Lambda Delta, was very grateful of the volunteer work that was done.
Ball State University Homecoming 2001: “Livin’ On The Edge”
Spirit Events: Wednesday, October 17, 2001
This year ALD participated in the spirit events for Ball State 2001 Homecoming and everyone involved had a great time. We participated in Sumo Wrestling and Twister and although in the end we didn’t win we had fun and showed school spirit. Thanks to Amber Volk, Ashleigh Fox, Mandy Womack, Amy Provisor and Service and Activities co-chairs Amanda Foster and Stefanie Gray for participating and showing that ALD has Ball State spirit!
Alpha Lambda Delta Service and Activities Week
November 11-16, 2001
For ALD Service and Activities Week, the Ball State chapter of ALD tried to be involved in helping our campus and community. On Sunday we went around and took down outdated signs on campus. Tuesday started our involvement in the 21st Century Scholars Program; the program provides tutors for high school students to help them stick to their studies and have the opportunity to attend college after graduation. Thursday was the beginning of a hopefully ongoing relationship with some of the residents of the Westminster Village retirement home. The week was capped off with the Autumn Initiation Ceremony for the Ball State University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta.
Fall Finals Week
December 10, 2001
For fall finals week, a group of ALD members had an idea called “caught studying”. The members passed out bags of candy with notes wishing good luck to those studying in the library. Hopefully this bit of encouragement helped some people to keep studying and do well on their finals. We plan to do this event again for spring semester finals, only this time with more goodies to give away.
Kaplan Test Drive
February 2002
The people at Kaplan Test Prep are sponsoring a free “test drive” at Ball State and Alpha Lambda Delta was selected to help co-sponsor the event along with the Ball State Pre-Med Club. Alpha Lambda Delta was in charge of posting signs for the event around campus. The Service & Activities committee handled these duties. The free LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and GMAT tests will be held February 23, 2002.
Habitat for Humanity of Muncie
April 20, 2002
On April 20 a group of 20 ALD members will get to help volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity of Muncie. This will be an exciting time for the members who had a quick response in wanting to help the community. Hopefully this will be an event that the group will continue in the following years.
